Unidentified Loricariinae LG6
LG6, young male
Unidentified Loricariinae LG6, male with beard similar to Hemiloricaria. Originally designated LG6 for unknown Loricariidae genus, this species was mislabeled as "LG4" in the the English edition and in the second German edition of the Mergus Catfish Atlas Vol 1. Regarding behavior and biology it appears like a cross between Sturisoma ("Royal Farlowella") and Hemiloricaria ("Whiptails"). They have green eggs like many whiptails and sometimes deposit them in a tube cave, while other pairs lay eggs on the glass similar like Sturisoma with the male guarding them. Sometimes imported with Otocinclus from Paraguay, they lack a firm place in the fish trade despite being a perfect aquarium fish that barely exceeds 4 inches (10 cm). Although omnivore these catfish mostly eat insect larvae and tablets and leave plants intact. Not an algae grazer! I have bred these regularly for the past years and they are easily kept even in community tanks with non-aggressive tankmates.
